- About Us
“Grandma Englert”, 93, closed her eyes here early on April 5, 2018 and opened her eyes to behold her Lord in Heaven and rejoin her beloved husband, Frank. She was predeceased by her parents, Florence and William Zier, and siblings, June Ernst, Bill Zier and Janet Laposka. She survived by sons, Stephen (Susan), Paul (Aurora), Mark (Elaine) and special son, Don, along with June and Pam to whom she remained forever “Mom”. She also survived by her 7 grandchildren and their families, her step-grandchildren and “adopted” grandchildren and their families. In addition, she survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, especially, John and Colleen Barron. She grew up in Queens during the Depression and knew hunger. She made certain when she settled in Upstate NY to raise her boys that every meal was a feast and the fridge was always full. She went to work on the 3rd shift at IBM after being widowed at age 47. She still managed to find time to make memories with her grandchildren, especially during the summer. She loved serving in the church nursery for many years. She took special joy in her own babies, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She just met Hayley, her newest great-granddaughter, less than a week earlier. She worked hard all her life. She enjoyed letter writing, researching her family tree, crossword puzzles and eating out. She knitted and crocheted treasured afghans as gifts. She also decorated beautiful cakes for birthdays and celebrations. She lived frugally and gave generously. She loved her Lord and family with all her heart. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, at 11:00am, at her church, First Assembly of God, 225 Washington St, Binghamton. Her grandson Peter Englert, will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Her beloved family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:00a.m until the time of the service at the First Assembly of God.
