Jane W. Phelps

August 15, 1919 ~ February 20, 2018 (age 98)

Jane W. Phelps, 98, without the aid of her walker, stepped into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 20, 2018, following a struggle with dementia.  She was pre-deceased by her brother James F. Wood and wife, Orabell M. Wood, and her sister Doris W. Rogers.  She is survived by her husband of 76 years Russell H. Phelps; their son James and Sharon Phelps of Liverpool; their daughter Deborah Phelps of Binghamton; daughter-in-law Patricia and George Geres of New Bern, NC; granddaughter Kimberly and Keith Wiebe, their children David and Danelle; granddaughter Nanette and Mark Fitch, their children Lauryn and Mikayla; brother-in-law Ed Rogers; sister-in-law Nila Rae Phelps; her dearest friend, Sally Silver; her special friend and care-giver, Muriel Doolittle; nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.  Jane graduated from Binghamton Central High School and Ridley Lowell Business School.  As a young career woman she worked at the Equitable Insurance Company.  She was an active member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Binghamton since her teenage years.  She directed the Junior High Sunday School Department that included 6 classes.  For over 25 years she was the director of Vacation Bible School, which grew to over 400 kids!  Music was Jane’s passion.  She was church organist and choir director for over 30 years.  She could be found on any Sunday morning on the organ bench, leading the choir and playing for the congregational music. Clarks Summit University of Pennsylvania, formerly Baptist Bible College, held a very special place in her heart.  Her greatest joy was that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved and served the Lord.  Nothing could have made her happier than for her granddaughters to have married godly men who became pastors.  Jane was a faithful prayer warrior whose faith in Jesus Christ was evident to all who knew her.  While her later years were difficult, she knew that each day was a gift from God.  A Memorial Service will be held at Park Avenue Baptist Church (1135 Vestal Ave, Binghamton, NY) on Wednesday, February 28 at 3 p.m.  The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to Park Avenue Baptist Church in her memory.
