Obituary

Frank J. Snupik passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021 at the notable age of 98 while at home in Vestal.  Frank was born in Binghamton in 1923 to the late Pauline and Teofil Snupik, the third of four children.  He was raised in Johnson City, graduating from Johnson City High School in 1941.  Frank soon joined the Army and was active in the Pacific theatre during WWII.  Upon returning home he attended the newly established New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences (later Broome Technical Community College) where he enjoyed playing basketball, becoming the Captain of their first 2 teams.  Frank went on to work for many years at IBM in Vestal and then Owego, retiring in 1984.  Frank played sports throughout his life, enjoying football, basketball, baseball, softball and golf which he played until only a few years ago.  He enjoyed following the NY Giants, NY Yankees, Syracuse Basketball and his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He was a talented artist, able to draw and paint for his own enjoyment his whole life, and taking watercolor lessons after he retired.  He enjoyed giving his paintings to family who hoped they were the recipient in each year’s Christmas gift exchange.  A friend to many, Frank enjoyed sharing stories about growing up in the 1st Ward of Binghamton and also World War II.  Frank was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Virginia (Walker) Snupik as well as his sisters and brother, Mary Ampula, William Snupik and Irene Hmurcik.  He leaves two daughters and sons in law, Diane and Jim Chudomel and Karen and Bob Dervay; four grandchildren Matthew (Kym) Chudomel, Larissa (Terry Lathum) Chudomel, Katelyn Dervay and Andrew Dervay.  He also leaves three great grandchildren Sadie, Jack and Jameson; brother in law Albert Hmurcik, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families.  A Private Mass was held at St. Vincent de Paul with burial at Calvary Cemetery.  The family would like to thanks Lourdes Hospice and the lovely “angels” who supported Frank in his wishes to remain at home.   To honor his memory, play a round of golf or grab a cold beer with a friend.  Donations can be made in Frank’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul, Loaves and Fishes, 465 Clubhouse Road, Vestal, NY 13850 or the Vestal Emergence Squad, 324 Myrtle Street, Vestal, NY 13850.
