Michael A. Balanda of Vestal, NY, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2020 after a short illness. He was born on November 5, 1934 in Johnson City, NY. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Rita (Wasco); son David and his wife Theresa; daughter Carolyn and her husband Roger O’Shaughnessy and his beloved granddaughter Carly Balanda. He is also survived by his brother Robert, sister in law Beverly and niece Laurel. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Mary; brother Stephen and sister MaryAnn. Michael graduated from Broome Community College (Broome Tech) and he was a veteran of the US Army. Michael retired from NYSEG after 37 years of work. He was an active member of St. Michaels Orthodox Church, participating in the pirohi and holupki sales. Michael (Grampy) was a loving and supportive grandfather playing “store”, trains and attending all his granddaughters sporting and musical events. He was well known in the antique community for over 50 years. Funeral services were held privately at the convenience of the family. Burial took place at St. Michaels Cemetery.
