Michael (Mihali) Kapogiannatos, age 76, of Binghamton NY, passed away peacefully July 21, 2021 surrounded by his family. Born in Kefalonia Greece on May 1, 1945, Michael immigrated to the United States in 1972. Michael worked in several restaurants learning every aspect of the business until finally settling in Binghamton, NY. He worked his way up from part-time employee to owner of the Red Oak Restaurant in 1983. Through his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial mindset Michael quickly gained attention from the community. In 1992 he put that entrepreneurial spirit to work and rehabilitated a building in downtown Binghamton which is now Chris’s Diner. This earned him an award from the Preservation Association of the Southern Tier. This is just one of many successful real estate endeavors Michael undertook. Michael loved getting to know the people of the city, often celebrating birthdays and spending holidays with his Red Oak family. He will be remembered for his charismatic personality, generous spirit, and making the best pumpkin pie and cheesecake in the Triple Cities. Michael is survived by his loving partner Julianne Ludka. His children Andreanna Kapogiannatos (Manuel Ferreira, Jr.), Alicia Kapogiannatos (Scott Wiener), and Peter Kapogiannatos (Keeley Fitzgerald). Step children Maria Olsen (Matthew), and Christopher Ingraham (Kristen). His adoring grandchildren and step grandchildren Ava, Alena, Alexa, Marianna, Adrienne, Harrison, Samuel, Madison, Derek and Andrew. His siblings Eleni Gerassimatos, Spiros Kapogiannatos, and Maria Haliotis. He is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Andreanna Kapogiannatos and brothers Gerasimos and Efthimios Kapogiannatos. Michael’s rescue dog Ziva provided him years of comfort and unconditional love, especially in his greatest times of need.
