Richard Paul Hardy (79), of Vestal, NY, passed away peacefully at Wilson Memorial Hospital late at night on March 6, 2021.
Richard was born on September 12, 1941 to Ira A. and Pearl L. Hardy in Columbus, Georgia. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army, where he served two tours in Vietnam. Richard spent 20 years in active service and retired as a First Sergeant while stationed at the Seneca Army Depot.
After his time in the military, Richard started working at U-Haul, where he was employed for over two decades, eventually becoming the President of U-Haul of Central New York. Even outside of work, he liked to keep busy around the house. When he allowed himself to relax, he could be found listening to his favorite music, including the Gaither Vocal Band, and appreciating his collection of Franklin Mint car models.
Richard was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved, but also held an unwavering commitment to his faith. These values were evident in his lifestyle and interactions with others.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Ira and Pearl, and his brother, Larry. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Donna L. Hardy; his children, Keith, Janeen and Ryan; his siblings, Ray, Glynn, Nena, and Sandra; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, March 12, at 1 PM at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main Street, Johnson City, NY. The burial will follow immediately at Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
