Obituary

Richard J. Cary, age 94, passed away peacefully into eternal life on January 19th, 2022.  Richard was born in Binghamton on April 3rd, 1927, the son of the late Myron X. and Anna K. (Bleisnick) Cary. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Geraldine (November 2021) after 68 wonderful years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Myron X. Cary Jr., his sisters and brothers-in-law Eleanor & Jay Shoemaker and Joyce Ann & Charles Moore, a niece, Ellen Riley and a great-nephew, Geoffrey Eck. He is survived by his 4 children: Richard Jr. (Joan), Mary, AnnMarie (Rick) & Andrew; 7 grandchildren: Amanda (Pete), Alexandria (Matt), Richard Charles (Kareena), Cheryl (Lance), Richard III (Megan), Alexa (Jake) and Danielle. 11 great-grandchildren: Ella, Miles, Maddison, Sadie, James, Caroline, Morgan, Wyatt, Chase, Richard J. IV and Evelyn as well as several dear nieces and great-nephews. Richard was a college course of study program graduate of Binghamton Central High School in 1945.  Following high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1947. He subsequently attended what is now the State University of New York at Binghamton where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harpur College in 1952.  After college he worked for GAF (Ansco) and for International Business Machines (IBM) where he was a quarter century club member. Per Richard’s request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be offered at the Parish of Saints John & Andrew, 1263 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, New York on Monday, January 24th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flower, donations in his memory may be made to the church’s food pantry or a charity of your choice in his name. Internment will be in Calvary cemetery.
