Stephen B. Atkinson

February 8, 2021

Stephen B. Atkinson, Attorney at Law, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 8, 2021.  Steve graduated from Houghton College with a BA in History in 1977, then continued his education at Syracuse University College of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor degree in 1982.  He was a member of the Justinian Honorary Law Society.  He was in private practice in Binghamton, NY, specializing in commercial and residential real estate, and in recent years assisted at Dixon Schumacher, PC, Owego, NY.  He served the Lord by providing legal counsel and guidance to numerous local churches.

Steve was a self-taught gourmet cook who took great joy in cooking for his family and friends.  His culinary masterpieces delighted all, especially during the holidays.  An avid traveler, he and his family enjoyed cruises, having visited the Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico and Europe.

Steve was a man of great spiritual depth, wisdom, wit and humor.  He was a loving husband and father.  He honored the Lord and his family as a faithful servant of Christ.

Steve is predeceased by his parents, Reverend Bruce and Virginia Atkinson, and is survived by the love of his life and wife of 36 years, Valerie, and by his beloved son, Travis.  He is also survived by his sister, Gail Donovan; his brother, Mark and JoAnne Atkinson; his uncle, Walter Atkinson; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Special thanks are extended by the family to the medical staff at Wilson Memorial Hospital; Kristen Lewis, FNP and Mary Karcher of UHS Vascular & Heart Institute; Reverend Tim and Reverend Jan Devine of the First Presbyterian Church of Endicott, NY; Steve's spiritual mentor, Reverend Gilbert McKenzie; his administrative assistant, Carol Webster; his paralegal, Amy Mischler; and the many people who touched Steve's life over the years.

Expressions of sympathy can be made in memory of Steve to the Living Hope Church (formerly First Presbyterian Church of Endicott, NY) and to the American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers.  A private memorial service will be held over Zoom with family and friends.
