Obituary

Stephen Mark Sullivan born on November 3, 1955, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the age of 66 at the Mercy House of the Southern Tier due to an unexpected battle with small cell lung cancer.  Stephen was predeceased by his parents Philip Sr. and Catherine Sullivan; sister Anne Sullivan; brothers Richard and Tom Sullivan; brother in law Steven Jones; father and mother in law Charles D. and Margaret R. Hawley and special pets Toby (dog) and Fluffer (cat).  He is survived by his loving wife Helen R. Hawley Sullivan; daughter Brianna R. (Tim) Sullivan; son Joseph D. (Brooke) Sullivan; brothers Philip Jr (Sheila) Sullivan, John (Ann) Sullivan, James (Denice) Sullivan; sister Marie Sullivan; brother in law Duane (Peggy) Hawley; sister in law Sharon Jones, several nieces, nephews and cousins and special dogs Ruby and Jade. He graduated from Maine Endwell High School in 1973 and attended Broome Community College. He worked at Faxton Hospital in Utica, Ideal Hospital Endicott, Wilson and Lourdes Hospitals and Orthopedic Associates, Binghamton.  Steve was an intelligent man whom many would have considered to be a genius for his contribution to the medical field.  Aside from his profession, he has a wife with whom he shared 40 wonderful years and 2 children who absolutely adored everything about him.  He will be so dearly missed and it is a unanimous agreement among many that he was taken far too soon.  The family would like to thank Marie Sullivan for the special care she offered during this last year.  Special thanks also to Lourdes Hospice and the Mercy House for all of their care.  A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday at 10am at the Most Holy Rosary Church, 2596 Main St, Maine.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-6pm at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St, Johnson City.  In lieu of flowers, donation can be made in Steve’s name to the Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Ave, Endicott, NY 13760.
